Vermont Castings Defiant Encore Wood Burning Stove
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
Lighting
Place the magnetic thermometer on the griddle. Pull both the left and right handles forward.
Start a small fire with paper & sticks, add small logs as fire grows.
Warm Up
Leave both handles forward, continue adding wood until there’s a 3-4” bed of coals in the stove (aprox. 1hr).
Heating
High Efficiency Mode
Confirm that the griddle temperature is above 450°. If not, continue Warm Up.
Top up stove with more wood.
Push left handle back to engage the catalytic converter.
Keep the right handle fully forward for aprox. 15mins to allow converter to warm.
Use the right handle to regulate temperature - forward for more heat, backwards for less.
If the griddle temperature falls below 450°, return to Warm Up
Cool Off
& ClEAN UP
Move both handles forward, let fire burn until coals are cool to the touch.
Remove all ashes from stove and ash pan - disposing them safely outside of the house.
Reload enough wood for one fire into the rack next to the stove.
Vacuum the area.
Push both handles back before leaving.

Reverse = Catalytic Converter (High Efficiency)

Forwards = Hotter
Backwards = Cooler
